First Annual Faculty Retreat This Summer

The theme of the retreat is “Engage. Empower. Energize.”

In response to faculty requests for more opportunities for professional development, the Department of Surgery has opted to host the first-ever annual on-campus retreat for both faculty and staff. This joint retreat is modeled off of the annual staff retreat, which is in its fifth year. Clinic appointments for patients are being deferred until the afternoon, giving both faculty and staff protected time to engage with their peers and get the most out of the retreat’s presentations.

The retreat agenda includes keynote speaker Dr. Mark DeVolder, known as the “change specialist.” Dr. DeVolder is an internationally renowned change management speaker whose client list includes NASA, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, GE, Marriott, PepsiCo, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Verizon, and Medtronic. His keynote presentation will take place during a joint session that includes faculty and staff.

Other speakers on the faculty agenda include the assistant dean for faculty wellness, Susan Matulevicius, M.D., and the founder and owner of Yoga Tree, Toni Farris.

The retreat will end with faculty and staff coming together for a little friendly competition in the form of “Family Feud Live: Surgery Edition.”
