U.S. News & World Report recently named William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and Zale Lipshy University Hospital as the top medical facilities in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, beating out a number of other major hospital systems in the Metroplex.

The recognition by U.S. News & World Report continues to raise the national profile of UT Southwestern Medical Center and its affiliates, and is a major step in the right direction for the institution as a whole. UT Southwestern Medical Center has grown and changed over the years, making continuous improvements to keep up with the medical needs of the community, and it will continue to evolve in the coming years. There are already plans in the works for expansions within the next 15 years.

William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, or Clements, is a relatively recent addition to UT Southwestern Medical Center. Opened in December of 2014, the hospital is designed to enhance every aspect of patient care and experience. Private patient rooms, cutting edge technology, and hospital amenities promote patient wellness and recovery.

The 1.3 million square foot hospital also ranks in the 99th percentile for cleanliness, and contains 460 single-patient rooms, 40 emergency treatment rooms, 16 labor and delivery rooms, 72 adult ICU rooms, and 30 neonatal ICU rooms.

In order to meet the needs of future patients in North Texas, UT Southwestern is currently engaged in a $480 million expansion of Clements. A 12-story third tower will open in 2020, and will, according to the university website, “serve as the clinical home for the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, consolidate acute inpatient care services currently provided at Zale Lipshy University Hospital, and add operating rooms, interventional suites, a newly expanded Emergency Department, and two new parking facilities.”

The second hospital named #1 in the DFW area, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, is a 148-bed facility that is certified as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. Its services include a comprehensive stroke program, an eight-bed epilepsy monitoring unit, imaging, a neuro intensive care unit, neuroangiography, psychiatric care, rehabilitation, 12 surgical suites, and stereotactic services using the latest Gamma Knife and AcuRay technology.
Zale Lipshy University Hospital has also received the Press Ganey Pinnacle of Excellence Award for maintaining high levels of patient satisfaction for four consecutive years.

Beyond the two hospitals, UT Southwestern Medical Center was also nationally ranked in cancer care, gastroenterology and GI surgery, colon cancer surgery, and diabetes and endocrinology care.
