Melissa Kirkwood, M.D., won the UT Southwestern Biotech+ at Pegasus Park Commercialization Milestone Award. The award will provide start-up funds to commercialize the OR facial shield developed by Dr. Kirkwood and her team.
Giada Pontecorvi, Ph.D., a researcher in the Ligorio lab, won a fellowship award from the American-Italian Foundation for Cancer Research. This prestigious award supports innovative research in cancer biology and treatment.
Andrew Shubin, M.D., won first place in the abstract/case presentation competition at the annual meeting of the Texas Transplantation Society on July 15-17 in Frisco, Texas. His winning presentation was The Effects of an OPO-Employed Surgeon on Liver Allograft Utilization and Outcomes.
Robert Tower, Ph.D., won the Harold M. Frost Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research for Spatial Transcriptomic Profiling Reveals Local and Global Regulatory Signaling Networks Within the Bone Marrow.
Jorge Vivaldi, M.D., won second place in the abstract/case presentation competition at the annual meeting of the Texas Transplantation Society on July 15-17 in Frisco, Texas. His winning presentation was Short-Term Kidney Transplant Outcomes From SARS-CoV-2 Lower Respiratory Tract Positive Donors.

Gilbert Murimwa, M.D., was appointed to the student and resident scholars (STARS) committee of the American Journal of Surgery.
Caroline Park, M.D., was one of five junior investigators selected by the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma to take part in its INVEST-C Research Hackathon in Chicago this November. The hackathon is a two-day event in which participants discuss their research proposals and receive “hacks” (guidance) from mentors on how to create a successful research program
