Dr. Ram Mani was awarded an R01 grant

Dr. Ram Mani

In January 2020, Dr. Ram Mani was awarded an R01 grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), for his project, 3D genome architecture and the origins of recurrent genomic rearrangements in prostate cancer.

The grant will run for 5 years with total direct costs of $1,245,000. Genomic rearrangements involving the ETS transcription factor family genes are causally associated with the development of prostate cancer. The overall goal of this proposal is to apply innovative genomics approaches to define the origins of recurrent genomic rearrangements in prostate cancer. Defining the mechanisms associated with the formation of recurrent genomic rearrangements will contribute towards our understanding of prostate cancer etiology and will impact several aspects of clinical disease management ranging from prevention and early diagnosis to therapeutic targeting. Ultimately, this formational knowledge could have broad implication for many other types of cancer.
