Dr. Peter Ly awarded UTSW Circle of Friends research grant

Peter Ly, Ph.D.

Dr. Peter Ly, Assistant Professor of Pathology, received a $50,000 research award from the UT Southwestern Circle of Friends, which funds innovative and highly promising cancer research. The grant proposal, entitled “Selective Drivers of Chromosome 3p Rearrangements in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma”, seeks to identify mechanisms that are involved in kidney cancer development. Over 70,000 cases of kidney cancer are diagnosed annually in the United States, the majority of which are histologically categorized as clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Alterations to chromosome 3p represent a distinct genomic feature of most sporadic ccRCC cases; however, the mechanisms that trigger and select for these chromosome 3p alterations remain poorly understood. This research proposal aims to establish new cellular models to explore the landscape of chromosome 3p alterations during ccRCC tumorigenesis. To learn more about research and training opportunities in the Ly Laboratory, please visit www.thelylab.org.
