Dr. Stacy Smith selected for Fight for Sight – NANOS Research Award

 

Stacy Smith, M.D., has been selected to receive the Fight for Sight – NANOS Research Award. The award is co-funded by Fight for Sight and the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) and encourages neuro-ophthalmologists-in-training to pursue academic careers or incorporate research into their clinical practice.

Dr. Roger Rosenberg looks back at 20 years as JAMA Neurology Editor

 

Dr. Roger Rosenberg has stepped down as editor of JAMA Neurology after 20 years at the journal’s helm. You can read Dr. Rosenberg’s editorial about his tenure online, “JAMA Neurology at the Forefront, 1997-2016”.

Christine Ochoa awarded grant for autism research

 

Christine Ochoa, a graduate student in Dr. Craig Powell’s lab, was awarded a pre-doctoral fellowship grant from the Autism Science Foundation. Christine’s research is focused on genetic mutations in chromosome 16 and their role in autism.

Benjamin Greenberg, M.D., elected to Southwest Academy of Teachers (SWAT)

 

Benjamin Greenberg, M.D., was elected to become a member of the UT Southwestern Academy of Teachers (SWAT) in recognition of his excellence as an educator. SWAT strives to stimulate innovation in education and fosters excellence in teaching at all levels.

Craig Powell, M.D., Ph.D., renews NIHNR01 research grant

 

Craig Powell, M.D., Ph.D., renewed his National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Project Grant (R01) for the next five years. R01 provides support for health-related research and development based on the mission of the NIH.

Dr. Marc Diamond earns UTSW's first-ever gift from Cure Alzheimer's Fund

 

Marc Diamond, M.D., Director of the Center for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases, recently received the first-ever gift to UT Southwestern from the nonprofit group Cure Alzheimer's Fund. Dr. Diamond, who is also Professor of Neurology and Neurotherapeutics, is investigating how the tau protein aggregates in brain cells.

Michael Dowling, M.D., Ph.D., is among three neurology faculty members inducted at the 2016 annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology as Fellows. Fellow status acknowledges exemplary work and achievements in the neurosciences, the clinical practice of neurology or academic/administrative neurology.

Vernino receives Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award

 

Steven Vernino, M.D., Ph.D., was recently selected, along with a small number of colleagues at UT Southwestern, to receive one of the highest honors awarded by the UT System, the Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award. Dr. Vernino is Director of the Residency Program and Academic Vice Chair for the Department of Neurology and Neurotherapeutics.
