GIM Welcomes Dr. Cagnazzi to the Team


Dr. Lianne Cagnazzi was raised on Long Island in New York, completed her Internal Medicine residency training in Chapel Hill at UNC and now joins the UTSW Division of General Internal Medicine as a faculty member. Her academic interests & experience include undergraduate and graduate medical education. Her clinical interests include chronic disease management, LGBTQ health, and mental health and her practice emphasizes patient-centered care.

Dr. Kapadia joins the Palliative Care team


Vishal P. Kapadia, D.O., grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where he completed his degree in Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University and Internal Medicine Residency at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He worked as a Hospitalist in St. Louis, Missouri at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, and later moved to Kansas City, Missouri to complete his Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Palliative Care Welcomes Dr. Hutchinson


Dr. Sean Hutchinson completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Internship at University of South Florida. He then went on to completed a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston before joining the faculty at UT Southwestern. 

Dr. Kirk to become inaugural Chief Accreditation Officer for ACGME


Thank you to Dr. Lynne Kirk for her three decades of outstanding leadership and service at UT Southwestern. Best of luck to her in her new role as the inaugural Chief Accreditation Officer for the ACGME. In addition to her new position at ACGME, Dr. Kirk has been named Professor Emeritus here at UT Southwestern's Department of Internal Medicine, joining an elite group of educators, clinicians and leaders in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Thakkar joins the GIM team.


Kruti Thakkar, M.D., is originally from India and received her medical training from M. S University of Baroda Medical College. She then completed a residency in Internal Medicine from the Loma Linda University Medical Center in Southern California in 2010 where she was given an opportunity to serve as a chief resident. She brings to UTSW a strong background of primary care and chronic disease management. Her interests are women’s health, diabetes and preventive medicine.

Rachel Bonnema, M.D. joins the General Medicine team as Associate Chief


Dr. Bonnema earned her medical degree at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. She completed a residency in internal medicine (women’s health track) and also received advanced training through an internal medicine fellowship with a focus in women’s health at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Bonnema has a master’s degree in medical education from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Dr. Chiu promoted to Associate Professor


Michael Chiu, M.D., has been a faculty member in Internal Medicine since 2011. He has been promoted to Associate Professor.

Dr. Barker promoted to Associate Professor


Blake Barker, M.D., has been a faculty member in Internal Medicine since 2011. He as been promoted to Associate Professor.

Dr. Barina joins Palliative Care team


Alexis Barina, M.D., joins the General Medicine Divisions as a Palliative Care physician.

Betty Grasty, M.D. joins Las Colinas team


Dr. Betty Chung Grasty is a Faculty Associate and primary care physician at the UT Southwestern Clinical Center at Las Colinas. As a general internist, Dr. Grasty forges lasting relationships with her patients and works hard to help them maintain and improve their overall health.
