The Division of Cardiology at UT Southwestern is diverse, arguably hosting more women faculty than any division of cardiology in the country. In the U.S., 15% of cardiologists are women; at UT Southwestern, that percentage is 30%. Here, women are role models at all ranks, from fellow to faculty, and across all facets of our myriad activities, engaged as leaders, investigators, care providers, and educators.
Furthermore, our faculty originates from across the globe. Whether at the early stages of their careers, as mid-career professionals, or as full professors, cardiologists at UT Southwestern come from backgrounds as diverse as the patients we serve.
Our fellowship program routinely ranks among the most racially and gender diverse in the nation, consistently attracting applicants from varied cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.
Through participation in programs such as the BRIM (Bias Reduction in Internal Medicine) Initiative and regular lectures on implicit bias mitigation, we ensure that our diverse group is recognized, celebrated, and empowered to reduce bias in medicine.
Today, we are in a privileged position to effect change. Our faculty practices medicine and trains students, residents, and fellows in three different clinical settings: at Clements University Hospital, our state-of-the-art tertiary and quaternary medical center; at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas County’s 862-bed safety net hospital; and at the Dallas VA Medical Center, one of the largest VA hospitals in the nation.
