Questions submitted for this briefing include these topics:

Annual Merit/Appraisals

In accordance with UT Southwestern policy EMP-205 Performance Evaluations, and UT System policy HOP 3.5.2 Performance Appraisals, as well as State of Texas regulations, all employees must have an annual performance evaluation. We value the process of providing feedback to employees, including a dialogue on their goals and work. The performance evaluation process is one of the ways in which managers and employees can exchange information that leads to improved engagement and career success at UT Southwestern.

PTO Donation and Expiration

The use of vacation and the cap limits are based on Texas Government Statute 661.152 Entitlement to Annual Vacation Leave. To date, we have not heard that this statute has been changed to allow for additional carryover or the donation of vacation time because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This request has been made to the UT System and we have not seen any indication that this statute will be changed by the Texas State Legislature. We will certainly let our UTSW employees know if there are any changes to the vacation leave carryover. We do recommend that managers and employees review their leave balances and plan for using vacation time or their plan for roll over to sick leave.

Return-to-Campus Concerns

We have taken the necessary precautions to ensure a safe return to campus following best practices and guidance from our clinical and infectious disease experts. If you have specific questions regarding these precautions, please speak with your immediate supervisor, who can discuss what processes have been put in place in your department and review any potential leave options that are available under UT Southwestern policies. We encourage all employees to understand the options available to them, and FMLA may be the appropriate and preferred process for those at-risk or with health conditions. Please note that anyone who refuses to perform assigned job duties and/or who fails to cooperate with their supervisor may be subject to disciplinary action.
