UT Southwestern has been designated a Mother-Friendly Worksite by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Designated organizations must have a written lactation support policy in place for nursing mothers.

According to the Mother-Friendly website, more than half of Texas women who return to work are unable to reach their breastfeeding goals. Breastfeeding for a minimum of six months has benefits that last a lifetime for mom and baby.

UT Southwestern supports our employees by providing:

• Accessible locations allowing privacy
• Access to a nearby clean and safe water source and a sink for washing hands and rinsing equipment
• Access to hygienic storage alternatives for the mother
