The mission of the Hamon Center for Therapeutic Oncology Research is to develop and implement new ways to improve the prevention, early detection, diagnosis, prognostic assessment, and treatment of human cancer by performing interdisciplinary research that translates findings to and from the laboratory and the clinic. The research includes components of basic laboratory research, preclinical studies, clinical research including development of new therapeutics, molecular early detection of cancer, family genetic studies, chemoprevention, epidemiology (including genetic epidemiology), and related population studies. Current areas of research interest include breast cancer, lung cancer, gynecologic malignancies, pediatric tumors, family cancer genetics, molecular early detection of cancer, microarray expression analysis of many genes in human cancers, testing of new drugs, tumor vaccines, gene therapy, identification of the role of dominant and recessive oncogenes and DNA repair genes, as well as autocrine/paracrine growth factors in the pathogenesis of human cancer.
