| Uses of P.E.T. PET technology has achieved widespread acceptance in the fields of oncology, neurology and cardiology. P.E.T. can be used clinically in:
In oncology, a post therapy or post surgery PET study using F-18 FDG as the radioisotope will demonstrate where glucose uptake is occurring differentiating necrotic tissue from new and recurrent tumor growth. In Neurology, PET can evaluate changes in metabolism indicative of various types of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and Parkinson's Disease. In Cardiology, PET can distinguish viable myocardium from infarcted tissue in patients with suspected hibernating or stunned myocardium, as well as evaluate extent of disease before revascularization or transplant.
