Mission Statement

The mission of UT Southwestern EAP is to provide the highest quality assessment, short-term counseling, referral and follow-up service to covered employees or retirees and their eligible family members, regardless of the problem.  The EAP services not only offer solutions but also focus on prevention.  The programs’ mission is:

  • To provide a supportive, strictly confidential resource for employees, their dependents, and retirees.   Federal regulations and applicable state law govern personal privacy.

  • To promote positive mental health and preventive education.

  • To reduce traditional barriers to seeking help and to provide a non-threatening counseling environment that makes every effort to put the client at ease.

  • To encourage early detection of problems before they affect job performance through supervisor training and supervisor consultations.

  • To support employer policies prohibiting employee substance abuse on the job, and to address off-duty use and abuse that could impair judgment, safety and productivity.

  • To provide a resource for troubled employees and to reduce problems that can affect the workplace and home.

  • To provide follow-up of employees who have completed treatment and rehabilitation and who are returning to work or have returned to work.

  • To provide referrals utilizing employee mental health benefits plan or to quality community service providers.

  • To provide equal opportunity for services without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, handicaps or positive test for AIDS-related virus.

  • To help to retain valued employees.
