Department of Urology Residency Program
The resident training program at UT Southwestern seeks to finish residents equally qualified for careers in academic medicine or clinical practice. We see graduates of our program as future leaders in urology, whether in academic centers or community hospitals. Since 1984, six of our residents have launched careers by successfully competing for American Foundation for Urologic Disease Scholarships, the premier pathway for academic urologists. Overall, twelve residents have achieved full-time academic positions. In the last five years, one-third of our residents have obtained fellowship positions.
The UT Southwestern Urology Program provides an outstanding residency experience with an operative volume that is substantially higher than the national average. However, the program is structured to provide residents with ample free time to enjoy their families and friends. All overnight call is from home. Dallas is a sophisticated, culturally diverse city that provides many leisure activities. The Dallas-area symphony, opera, theaters and art museums are nationally recognized. Area lakes, professional sports, golf, bike trails and other facilities provide many opportunities for recreation.
The mission of the Department of Urology is to provide balanced excellence. Excellence in residency training is achieved through a dedicated faculty, excellent clinical material and bright, motivated men and women who share our goals.
