Registered dietitians (RD's) play a critical role in health care through education and nutritional therapy by translating nutrition science into usable information for the promotion of health and disease prevention and treatment.  Nutrition research may offer more to the prevention of chronic disease in the United States than any other medical discipline.

The registered dietitian is the most widely recognized nutrition expert and the only nutrition expert covered by medicare to provide medical nutrition therapy and counseling.

How to become a Registered Dietitian

Complete:

  • A bachelors degree in nutrition and dietetics
  • Minimum 900 hours supervised practice
  • Pass a national registration examination

The Coordinated Program combines the required course work along with the required supervised practice. Graduates are immediately eligible to take the national registration examination.

  • Average GPA of accepted students: 3.0
  • GPA range of accepted students: 2.5 - 4.0
  • Male to Female ratio: 1:14
  • 1/2 have a bachelors or masters degree in another field
  • Age range: 22 - 53 years
  • Most students are from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and commute to campus
  • Average of 30 applicants each year for 16 full-time slots
