Aims

  1. Evaluate the cervical carotid and vertebral arteries. The subclavian arteries should be evaluated as necessary
  2. Ascertain/determine pathology by evaluating echo characteristics and flow patterns linked with atherosclerosis or other disease processes.

Indications

Certain indications might include evaluation of patients with signs or symptoms suggestive of cerebrovascular insufficiency. Common indications include:

  1. Amaurosis Fugax
  2. Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
  3. Cervical Bruits
  4. Follow-up of known carotid artery disease
  5. Post-operative assessment/follow-up
  6. Reversible Ischemic Neurological deficit (RIND)
  7. Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
