Peripheral arteries are assessed by several techniques including Doppler, plethysmography, systolic pressure recordings, and photoplethysmography. These combined techniques verify the presence of vascular disease and also define the extent of the disease.

  1. Ankle/brachial index and Doppler waveform analysis allow for the identification and localization of the area of disease and will indicate what additional tests are required.
  2. PPG waveform analysis and toe pressure measurements provide vital information about blood flow distal to the ankle.
