Preparation for Laboratory Visits

Federal laws require that the IACUC visit animal use areas once every six months.  In addition to visits by IACUC members, non-UT Southwestern personnel such as USDA, NIH, and/or AAALAC site visitors may also visit laboratories.  A checklist has been developed to help researchers prepare for these visits.  This list is intended as a helping tool for use within a laboratory by the researcher.  It is not considered as a replacement for lab visit procedures.  In anticipation of possible laboratory visits, the standards on the Animal Use Checklist should be carefully reviewed and deficiencies corrected immediately.  The IACUC Office may be contacted at extension 5-6423 for assistance in interpreting the standards or applying corrective action.
