Welcome to the Conflict of Interest Web Page

The Conflict of Interest Office has been in existence since August 1995.  The purpose of the office is to help investigators identify, understand, and manage conflicts of interest.

The Policies and Procedures on Conflicts of Interest in Research was developed to meet the requirements of federal regulations and the existing state law.  Each UT Southwestern faculty member must submit an annual Statement of Financial Interests.  There are links on this page to electronic and pdf versions of the statement.  Any changes which occur during the year must be reported via an updated statement.

Before a grant application can be sent to a sponsoring agency, the Conflict of Interest Office must have statements on file for all key personnel listed in the application.  All research applications to federal agencies require certification that the investigators conducting the research do not have a conflict of interest which might compromise the conduct of the proposed research or the interpretation of the results of the research.

If you have questions regarding the policy or the statement, please contact Sheria Oswalt, Program Coordinator, at 214-648-5398.

Notice to File Annual Statement
of Financial Interests
Posted Apr 15 2008

All faculty, IRB members, and investigators are required to file an annual Statement of Financial Interests and to read and adhere to UT Southwestern’s Policy and Procedures on Conflicts of Interest in Research (Revised December 2007). Please note revisions to Section II.D. and Section V.C.ii. mandate that "stock ownership of any amount connected with any Business Entity with which the Faculty Member, Family, or Associated Entity has a clinical research relationship will not be allowed." 2008 Statements of Financial Interests are due to the Conflict of Interest Office by May 9, 2008.

You may access the online Statement of Financial Interests directly by going to https://sws001.swmed.edu/coi/disclosure.  If you are unable to complete the statement electronically, click here for a printable hard copy which may be returned to the Conflict of Interest Office at Mail Code 8574 or fax # (214) 645-9847.

Completion of the Conflict of Interest (COI) online training module is required every two years.  If you have not taken the COI training module within the past two years, please go to https://sws001.swmed.edu/training/home and login using your MedNet user ID and password.  Choose the Conflict of Interest Office and For Credit options.  (If you receive the message “You are not required to take this course at this time”, then you have taken the COI training within the past two years and no action is needed at this time).  A link to the online Statement of Financial Interests is located on the last page of the training module. Click here for a PDF version of the Training and here for a PDF version of the Training Confirmation. Submit the PDF versions following the instructions in the previous paragraph.

Additional COI information and forms may be found at http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/coi  and on the W drive (W:/PUB/FORMS/COI).

If you have questions, please call the Conflict of Interest Office at
