THREE WAYS TO SUBMIT ABSTRACTS

1. An individual Paper

Individual scholars may submit one or more abstracts relevant to the Psychiatry & Freedom theme of their choice. Abstracts for individual papers should be printed and mailed, OR submitted via e-mail on two pages: a Cover Page including the contact information (see general instructions below) and the Abstract Page, which contains the title of the presentation and the abstract proper. Abstract text should not exceed 250 words. Presentation of a Paper at the meeting will be limited to 20 minutes, so abstracts should reflect the time constraints.

Papers which are accepted and do not fit into a larger Workshop or Symposium will be presented within one of several Paper Sessions during the meeting.

2. A Workshop

Workshops are thematic, discussion-oriented sessions presenting 2 or 3 papers with audience participation within a 90-minute total time. Each paper presentation should not exceed 20 minutes per paper, which permits time for discussants and audience participation. Workshops must be organized around a particular Psychiatry & Freedom topic or problem, and component papers and discussion should explore that topic/problem. Workshop submissions may propose their own “section theme”, or be assigned to one of the existing section themes described in the next section of this CFA.

A Workshop submission requires multiple abstracts
, all limited to 250 words of text, not counting title page. These include:

A Workshop Summary Abstract which describes the theme, objectives, and format of the paper presentations and discussion. The Chair of the Workshop should be identified, and this person would usually be the person submitting the Workshop. Two co-chairs are permissible, but the primary contact should be identified for correspondence. If the Workshop wishes to include one or two formal discussants, their names, institutional affiliations, and contact information (email and
telephone) should be included in the Summary Abstract.

Two to three Workshop Paper Abstracts which conform to the abstract guidelines described below in the “general instructions for abstracts” section.

Each abstract (Summary and Papers) for Workshops should be printed and mailed, OR submitted via e-mail on two pages: a Cover Page including the contact information for chairs and authors (see general instructions below) and the Abstract Page, which contains the title of the presentation and the abstract proper as described above. All abstract text is limited to 250 words, not including the Cover Pages.

Symposia are thematic, discussion-oriented sessions presenting 4 to 6 papers with audience participation within a 2 ½ hour or 150-minute total time. Each paper presentation should not exceed 20 minutes per paper, which permits time for discussants and audience participation. Symposia must be organized around a particular Psychiatry & Freedom topic or problem, and component papers and discussion should explore that topic/problem. Formal discussants for Symposia are encouraged for the proposed Symposium program. Symposium submissions may propose their own “section theme”, or be assigned to one of the existing section themes described in the next section of this CFA.

A Symposium submission requires multiple abstracts, all limited to 250 words of text, not counting title page. These include:

A Symposium Summary Abstract which describes the theme, objectives, and format of the paper presentations and discussion. The Chair of the Symposium should be identified, and this person would usually be the person submitting the Symposium. Two co-chairs are permissible, but the primary contact should be identified for correspondence. If the Workshop wishes to include one or two formal discussants, their names, institutional affiliations, and contact information
(email and telephone) should be included in the Summary Abstract.

Four to six Symposium Paper Abstracts which conform to the abstract guidelines described below in the “general instructions for abstracts” section.
