RSS is a fast, effective and simple way to subscribe to UT Southwestern's news. To have an RSS feed sent to your computer's desktop, PDA or other wireless device, you will need to select an RSS reader (also referred to as an aggregator).

1. Choose and download an RSS reader (several readers require Microsoft's .NET framework on your computer). A number of free and commercial readers are available, including Pluck and SharpReader. Visit this page for a complete list of readers.
2. Click on the orange RSS icon  298202rss_resized.gif on our Latest News page. You will see a page displaying XML code. Copy and paste the URL (web address) into the Address Bar of your RSS reader.

3. Paste our RSS feed URL — http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/utsw/news/pressroom/utsouthwesternnewsrss.xml into the "Add New Channel" or "Subscribe to Current Feed" section of the reader. The RSS feed will start to display and regularly update the headlines for you.

What is RSS?

RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is an easy way to keep up with UT Southwestern news and information. An RSS feed contains headlines and links to news on our Web site.

It works almost like a stock ticker, delivering exactly the information that you have subscribed to, eliminating the need to go out and check your favorite outlets for new information, because it is already delivered to your computer. In addition to RSS readers, RSS feeds can also be added to your Google, Yahoo or MSN homepage. For more information about RSS, see this Wikipedia article.

Why use RSS?

By viewing UT Southwestern's news through RSS, you can avoid pesky spam in your e-mailbox. It is also fast, giving you the latest news in real-time and allows you to personalize the look and feel of your news experience. Researchers no longer have to surf the Internet — RSS does it for them.

How often is RSS updated?

Your UT Southwestern RSS Feed is updated every time we announce new medical or scientific news. Your RSS reader determines how often it will retrieve the latest headlines. You can adjust the update frequency in many RSS readers.

The future of RSS

Microsoft announced that the next generation of Internet Explorer and Windows will include a built-in RSS feature. Other browsers such as Firefox, Opera and Netscape already have RSS-enabled features.
