DALLAS — March 28, 2006 — Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center are seeking patients to participate in medical studies on osteoporosis, skin disorder and dry eyes. All clinical trials are approved by UT Southwestern's Institutional Review Board, which reviews them for benefits, risks, side effects and informed consent.

Osteoporosis
UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers are seeking women age 55 and older to participate in a 54-week osteoporosis study comparing the effectiveness and safety of two different drugs. Women with osteoporosis who are not taking hormones or prescription drugs for this disease may be eligible. Selected study participants will be provided medications, bone mineral density and related medical tests at no charge. Please call 214-648-8866 for more information.

Pemphigus treatment
Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center are seeking participants 18 years of age and older who have confirmed diagnoses of pemphigus vulgaris, an auto-immune skin condition that causes blistering and rashes, for a new treatment study involving oral medication. Qualified patients will receive study-related medical care at no cost. For additional information, call 214-648-5751.

Dry eyes
Researchers in the department of ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center are looking for healthy adults who have a history of dry eyes for a new study that includes treatment with nutritional supplements. Selected participants need to be 18 years of age or older and not pregnant or breast feeding. The three-month study will include a few return visits to the ophthalmology clinic at UT Southwestern. For more details, call Mike Molai at 214-648-4734.
