DALLAS - Jan. 18, 2006 - Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center are seeking patients to participate in medical studies on depression, bladder cancer and non-hormonal contraception. All clinical trials are approved by UT Southwestern's Institutional Review Board, which reviews them for benefits, risks, side effects and informed consent.

Depression
A research study on depression is being conducted in the department of psychiatry at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. To be eligible you must be female, married, depressed, have marital concerns, feel that your marital problems contribute to your depression, and your husband must be willing to participate in the research. Bladder cancer
UT Southwestern Medical Center's department of urology is looking for patients at high risk for bladder cancer to participate in a study to screen for bladder cancer with a simple urine test. Eligible patients include those who are 50 years of age or older, with a pack-a-day smoking habit for more than 10 years. Patients 50 and older with significant environmental or occupational exposure to carcinogens - including firefighters, dye industry workers or petroleum or chemical industry workers - may also be eligible. Non-hormonal contraception
Women ages 18 to 40 are needed to participate in a UT Southwestern Medical Center trial evaluating the contraceptive effectiveness of an investigational spermicidal gel as a non-hormonal prevention of pregnancy method. The six-month study is sponsored by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. To be eligible, women should be in good general health, be in a steady relationship and not be breast feeding. Participants also must use the investigational study medication as their primary method of contraception and make five office visits during the study. Qualified participants will receive study medication, exams and financial compensation. For more information, call 214-648-7140.
