DALLAS - Oct. 19, 2005 - Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center are seeking patients to participate in medical studies on urge incontinence, kidney function and osteoporosis. All clinical trials are approved by UT Southwestern's Institutional Review Board, which reviews them for benefits, risks, side effects and informed consent.
Urge incontinence
UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers are seeking women 21 years of age and older who have had urge urinary incontinence - a condition characterized by a sudden uncontrollable urge to urinate - for at least three months. Eligible candidates will receive a routing urologic workup, and will be assigned one of two study tracks: daily medication only, or daily medication combined with pelvic exercises to increase muscle strength and control. Kidney function for diabetic patients
Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center are looking for participants in a year-long study to determine whether using well-established, FDA-approved blood pressure medicines in new combinations might delay or stop the progression of diabetic kidney disease. All study participants will be put on the medicine lisinopril as well as one of the following: losartan, spironolactone or a placebo. Osteoporosis
UT Southwestern Medical Center is looking for women 55 years and older to participate in a study that compares the effectiveness and safety of two different osteoporosis drugs. Women with osteoporosis who are not taking estrogen or prescription drugs for this bone-thinning disease may be eligible. Study participants receive regular supervision, periodic X-rays, bone density tests, and laboratory evaluations. Appointments are scheduled every three months during the first year and then every six months until the study is completed. Study related tests and medication are provided at no charge.
