DALLAS - Oct. 3, 2005 - Dr. Charles DeCarli, a co-investigator in the multicenter Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, in which UT Southwestern Medical Center is a participant, will be the featured speaker at an Oct. 25 seminar on campus.

The public seminar - "The Use of Neuroimaging as a Biological Marker for Normal Aging, Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease" - is sponsored by the Friends of the Alzheimer's Disease Center and will be held in the second-floor auditorium of the Simmons/Hamon Biomedical Research Buildings on the North Campus, 6000 Harry Hines Blvd. Dr. DeCarli's presentation begins at 7 p.m.

Dr. DeCarli is a professor of neurology at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine.

"It would be good for people to hear and see what he's done, because he's among the leaders in this field," said Harvey Mitchell, chairman of the Friends group and retired chairman and chief executive officer of Bank One Texas.

The Neuroimaging Initiative entails using magnetic resonance imaging and other techniques to study the progression of Alzheimer's disease and the effectiveness of drugs.

The Friends of the Alzheimer's Disease Center is dedicated to promoting awareness of the illness and raising money for related research projects at UT Southwestern. Annual dues of $500 provide for membership in the Friends of the Alzheimer's Disease Center, with all the dues going to support research.
