 Insurance

 Retirement Benefits
Participation in a retirement program through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) is mandatory for regular employees. Employees contribute 6.4% of their annual salary toward their retirement accounts, and UT Southwestern matches the contribution at the rate of 6.58%. Faculty members may participate in the Optional Retirement Program (ORP), described at http://www.utretirement.utsystem.edu/OptionalRetirement.html. In addition to the TRS or ORP retirement plans, all employees may participate in a voluntary 403(b) retirement savings Tax Sheltered Annuity Program (TSA). More details about this program may be found at http://www.utretirement.utsystem.edu/UTSaver403b.html.

Employees should also consult the Social Security Administration for retirement information.

 Workers' Compensation  Insurance
All employees of UT Southwestern are covered by Workers' Compensation insurance. The insurance covers medical expenses for reasonable and necessary care as prescribed by law and, in some instances, provides income benefits for lost wages, in the event of a work injury or notification by an employee that an occupational disease has been contracted.

 Holidays
There are paid holidays each fiscal year. Employees also accrue two hours of floating holiday each month.

 Vacation
New employees accrue eight hours per month of vacation time which may be used after six months of employment.

 Sick Leave
Sick Leave is accrued at a rate of eight hours per month. There is no waiting period for use of sick leave and no maximum allowed accrual.

 Prior State Service
Employees of UT Southwestern are eligible to receive credit for prior State of Texas employment. Once an employee's length of prior state service has been confirmed, the employee may qualify for higher vacation accruals and longevity pay, if employed on a full time basis.
