Special Appointment by the Office of the President
Congressional Fellow with
U.S. Representative Michael Burgess, M.D.
To achieve sound public policy and legislation involving biomedical research and health care, participation by those trained in health care and allied fields is absolutely essential. Equally important is for those individuals to have experience with the legislative process. To that end, UT Southwestern Medical Center has created a valuable opportunity for students and graduates of UT Southwestern to gain experience and knowledge in the federal legislative process.
A program in legislative medicine provides one to two individuals per year with the remarkable opportunity to serve as an aide on health policy legislation to Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D. in Washington, D.C. The selected individuals gain rare insights on the legislative process, career-enhancing skills and contacts, the opportunity to immediately impact public policy, and a foundation to substantially impact public policy throughout their career.
UT Southwestern students or graduates in any program may be considered. For enrolled Master of Public Health students, 3 credit hours are possible toward degree requirements.
Term: either a six-month or one-year appointment
Stipend: $2,000 per month
Applications for 2007-08 are now being accepted. To apply, please send a cover letter including the desired term of appointment, a current resume or CV, and two letters of recommendation to:
