Students accepted with advanced standing will be exempted from taking the first year DBS core course and will begin the course of study defined by their graduate program in the first fall semester they are enrolled. In addition they will take a seminar that teaches critical reading of the primary literature and experimental design, replacing one of the elective courses required by their graduate program. Students with advanced standing will participate in the ethics lectures and discussions of the DBS core course and are required to complete three research rotations in different laboratories before choosing a laboratory to join for dissertation research. The timing of the Qualifying Exam for advancing to candidacy for the Ph.D. degree will be decided on an individual basis by the student’s graduate program.
