A few words from the Program Director...
I am happy to welcome you to the UT Southwestern Family Medicine Residency Program. UT Southwestern is a major medical center located in central Dallas, Texas with 70 accredited post-graduate training programs for physicians. The UT Southwestern Family Medicine Residency is unique in that it offers the best of both the community and University hospital settings. Residents train in Parkland Memorial Hospital, Children’s Medical Center, University Hospital - St. Paul Campus, and University Hospital - Zale Lipshy Campus as well as numerous outpatient opportunities in the community. In this way, the graduates will have exposure to the intense training of teaching hospitals and the real-world experience in the community. The program has the full support of the Medical Center with 16 Board Certified Family Physicians (one with extra certification in Sports Medicine and one with extra certification in Obstetrics), a Behavioral Scientist, and a Podiatrist as core faculty.
The residency offers 8 positions through the match each year and the residents are employees of Parkland Health and Hospital System. The Parkland Family Medicine Clinic is only four blocks north of Parkland Memorial Hospital and provides primary care to a predominately indigent population.
The curriculum is designed to be progressive and responsive to the dynamic needs of the Family Physician. The first year is like a classical internship except for the unique December Family Medicine month that brings all the first years together in a series of lectures and workshops given exclusively by the core family practice faculty. There is no call this month and all PGY- 1’s have a week off between Christmas and New Years.
The second and third years become progressively more out patient oriented. Each Wednesday from 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm are three 45-minute conferences that offer a balanced mix of lectures, workshops, behavioral science, Journal Club, and practice management.
UT Southwestern and Parkland provide residents with an unmatched education followed by numerous career opportunities in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Dallas metroplex offers excellent nightlife, sports, recreation, arts, shopping and jobs. We hope you will visit us and give strong consideration for Family Medicine training at UT Southwestern/Parkland.
Sincerely,
Madelyn Pollock, M.D.
