INTERPRETING

Definition:  The process of understanding and analyzing a spoken or signed message and re-expressing that message faithfully, accurately and objectively in another language, taking the cultural and social context into account. The purpose of interpreting is to enable communication between two or more individuals who do not speak each other’s languages.*

Interpreter:  A person who renders a message spoken in one language into a second language, and who abides by a code of professional ethics.*

Spanish Interpreting Services

UT Southwestern Medical Center language interpreters offer on-site professional Spanish interpreting services 24 hours/7 days a week.

• To request interpreting services, you may:

  e. Download a request form on the website and email your completed form to
          LanguageandTranslationServices@UTSouthwestern.edu

• Cost for interpreting services:
  $80.00 per hour with a one hour minimum

Sign Language Interpreting Services

Sign Language Interpreting services is provided by companies who are contracted by UT Southwestern Medical Center:

• To request sign language interpreting services, which are available under contract with the following vendors, please submit an online purchase requisition and obtain a PO number. If you anticipate requiring such services on an occasional basis, it may be possible to obtain a blanket PO for the fiscal year. The PO number must be submitted to the vendor prior to services being performed.  To request sign language interpreting services submit your request and PO number to one of the following:

If you anticipate requiring such services on an occasional basis, it may be possible to obtain a blanket PO for the fiscal year.
