Luminex 100 (cytokines)

The Luminex 100 is a multiplexing machine that uses bead mapping technology to obtain concentrations of multiple cytokines in samples.

  • What is bead mapping?

Using a patented dying process, Luminex color-codes microscopic beads called microspheres into 100 distinct sets of colors.  Then each colored bead set is coated with a reagent specific to a particular bioassay such as antigens, antibodies, oligonucleotides, enzyme substrates, or receptors.  When a sample is combined with the microspheres, the reagents on the surface recognize a specific analyte of interest, and capture the analyte through a biochemical binding reaction.  Assay results are detected using a flow-cytometry based analyzer, the Luminex 100.
