  • Experimental Design

The general experimental protocol includes an initial 5 days in acclimation chambers, followed immediately by a 4.5 day experimental period with data collection.

Acclimation period:  Wednesday morning – Monday morning
Experimental period:  Monday morning – Friday afternoon

Cages are charged by blocks of 12 (up to a maximum of 36 cages, one mouse in each cage).

The cost is $750 for 12 cages.

Non-irradiated 4% standard chow diet is available.  For special diets, please make arrangements with the core staff in advance.

  • Addendum

You must make an addendum to your current protocol to use the metabolic chambers.  It does not have to be highly detailed and is a quick and easy process.  Please contact Laura Brule for more information.

  • Procedure

- South Campus

Animals currently housed on South campus, need to be delivered at 10:00am to Y6.400 by the investigator on the Wednesday prior to the scheduled week of data collection .

Animals must be in fresh cages before bringing them to the room.

- North Campus

For animals currently housed on North campus, the investigator must make the necessary arrangements to have the ARC transport the mice to Y6.400 at 10:00am, Wednesday (see below for Animal Transportation information).

If mice are not already individually caged with identification clearly marked on the accompanying cage card, the investigator MUST be available on the delivery date to help the core personnel place mice in the chambers.

Animals must be in fresh cages before bringing them to the room.

  • Animal Transportation

In order to have the animals delivered by Wednesday for acclimation, please complete the online transportation form and send to ARC by Friday of the previous week.

DO NOT send non-experimental animals.

  • End of Experiment and Data Retrieval

The raw data collected from the experiment will be put in MS Excel format on a CD for the investigator.  This will be available for pick up the Monday following the end of the experiment.

The mice from North Campus CANNOT be transported back to North Campus for further experiments or housing.  Facilities are available for euthanasia.  This must be performed by the investigator.

  • Checklist

Please be sure that you have completed everything on this checklist.
