Mission Statement

The Division on Addiction seeks to develop an integrated program that includes research, education, and clinical care in the addictive disorders.  This integrated program will consist of a continuum from basic neurobiological mechanisms to the latest clinical advancements in addiction treatment.  Collaboration between UT Southwestern and its community partners will promote a deeper understanding of the addictive disorders, enhance professional development, establish and facilitate community research efforts, and improve treatment outcomes.

To maximize the program, the Division will:

  • Promote translational research in addictive disorders by fostering collaboration between researchers, educators, and clinicians in order to further two-way “bench to bedside” sharing of information (from basic and clinical research to patient care and back).
  • Educate future clinicians and researchers in the addictive disorders.
  • Disseminate evidenced-based practices to community treatment providers in order to inform and improve treatment outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a website to advance communication and collaboration among the Division’s academic faculty and to serve as a resource for both treatment providers and the lay community.
