VPN Remote Access
 IR (Intranet) -- VPN 
 

Virtual Private Networking (VPN) is security software that is used for accessing restricted UT Southwestern systems from the Internet.  Cisco VPN is free to all UT Southwestern faculty, staff, and students and can be used to access campus services like the Library's ebooks and databases, Cerner, vCDR, etc.

Summary of Cisco VPN and Remote Access Process
(A number of the steps require intranet access.  Complete those steps before you leave campus.)

  1. Confirm minimum hardware and software requirements for your remote computer
  2. Request VPN Authorization (Requires intranet access and your SouthwesternID and password; students already have VPN authorization and can skip this step.)
  3. Obtain Cisco VPN software (see sources later on this page)
  4. Install Cisco VPN software
  5. Run Firewall Exception batch file.
  6. Log into VPN concentrator
  7. Use network resources and/or campus systems
  8. Disconnect

Cisco VPN Software
Cisco VPN software is available from the following sources:

Requires intranet access.

  • W:\Installs\vpn

Available with Windows Explorer on campus.

Also available via web browser from home on the Mednet NetStorage site. Requires your SouthwesternID and password. 

  1. Browse to the Mednet NetStorage site and use your SouthwesternID and password to login with the “Click Here to Login” button.
  2. Under the Folders column, click the DriveW@Data folder to expand it.
  3. Double click the Installs folder.
  4. Double click the VPN folder.
  5. Double click the appropriate client software folder.
  6. Double click the appropriate platform folder.
  7. Double click the documentation file for brief instructions.
