Periodically Windows will need to be updated. It is best to set the computer to update automatically to ensure viruses don't infect university systems. Follow the directions below for the appropriate operating system to configure automatic Windows updates.
XP Updates
- Select "Start" from the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Select "Control Panel."
- Double-click "Automatic Updates." If the option isn't available, select "Switch to Classic View" on the left side of the window then select "Automatic Updates."
- Confirm "automatically download and install Windows updates" is selected on the Automatic Updates screen.
- Enter a time every day to check for these updates.
- Select "OK."
- Close the Control Panel.
Vista Updates
- Select "Start" from the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Select "Control Panel."
- Select "Security Center."
- Select "Windows Update" from the left hand column.
- Select "Change Settings" from the left hand column.
- Confirm "Install Updates Automatically" is selected.
- Enter a time every day to check for updates.
- Select "OK."
- Close the Windows Update screen.
- Close the Windows Security Center.
- Close the Control Panel.
