Uniforms/clothing: lab coat (~$25) required, chefs jacket (~$25) optional, budget for business/professional dress and shoes.

Compliance costs: immunizations and background check (~$40) prior to enrollment, CPR training ($50 – $90) prior to second year, drug screening (~$40) prior to clinical rotations.

Transportation expenses: students must budget for transportation (car, gasoline, etc.) expenses to and from assigned supervised practice rotations throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex each semester.

Housing: students are responsible for housing expenses. Student apartments are available near campus. There are several apartment complexes within 5 to 10 miles of the campus with market value rental rates. One bedroom apartments in the Dallas area typically start around $700 per month.

Health Insurance: students must be able to document that they have health insurance coverage. Student health insurance is available for purchase if needed.

Computer: home computers with Internet access are not required but highly recommended. Student computer workstations are easily accessible on campus if needed. The student store offers computer hardware and software discounts.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

A free application for Federal Student Financial Aid is also available online. For questions contact the UT Southwestern Financial Aid Office.  You may also contact them directly: phone (214) 648-3611; fax (214) 648-3289. Please note there is an application process for financial aid and most scholarships.

Health Profession and Dietetic Scholarship Opportunities are also available to incoming and enrolled dietetic students! Students are highly encouraged to apply for available scholarships since many scholarships go un-awarded due to lack of applicants.
