Two Master of Clinical Nutrition (MCN) degree program options are available. Both programs have a strong emphasis in clinical nutrition for medical nutrition therapy.
Option 1 - Master of Clinical Nutrition – Coordinated Program (MCN-CP)
Option 2 - Master of Clinical Nutrition – Registered Dietitian or Licensed Health Professional (MCN-RD/LHP)
Option 1 – MCN-CP Track
This track is designed for students interested in obtaining the Registered Dietitian (RD) credential . A Bachelors degree in any field plus the specified admission required courses is acceptable. A previous degree in nutrition is not required.
- The MCN-CP track prepares students to address the nutritional and health needs of society as an RD. Optimum nutrition is essential when managing diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, or cancer. Changes in food trends and increased emphasis on prevention of disease make the field of nutrition continuously challenging and rewarding.

- This is a full-time, 2-year program.

- The MCN-CP application deadline is March 1st for starting in the fall semester each year. Approximately 16 students are accepted each year. Note there is only one application and start time per year.

- The MCN-CP combines the required course work along with the required 1200 hours of supervised practice for becoming an RD. Graduates are immediately eligible to take the national registration examination.

- Students attend rotations in a variety of settings including teaching hospitals associated with UT Southwestern Medical Center, community based clinics, and wellness centers.

Option 2 – MCN-RD/LHP Track
This track is designed for students who are currently registered dietitians (RDs) or licensed health professionals recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services. This track does not meet the requirements for eligibility to become a registered dietitian.
- This track is designed to advance the skills and knowledge in nutrition of registered dietitians and other licensed health professionals. This graduate degree program will build on your current professional skills and expose you to the latest clinical nutrition research. Research continues to clarify optimum nutritional strategies for management of such diseases as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer. Changes in food trends and increased emphasis on prevention and treatment of disease make the field of nutrition continuously challenging and rewarding.

- Students may complete this track on a part-time basis, but must complete all graduation requirements within 5 years of the first enrollment semester.

- The MCN-LHP application deadline is June 1st for starting in the fall semester, and Oct. 1st for starting in the spring semester.
