Public Health

The Dallas Regional Campus of the University of Texas School of Public Health offers a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree, a Certificate in Public Heath (16 credit hours), as well as a combined MD/MPH degree.  While the main campus of the School of Public Health is located in Houston at the University of Texas Health Science Center, a campus for Public Health education was created in Dallas in 1998 in an effort to respond to the increased need for graduate public education.   All the credits towards the MPH degree (45 credit hours) are completed in Dallas, including course work, practicum and thesis.

CaetanoThe School of Public Health in Dallas is directed by Dr. Raul Caetano, Dean of the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions.  The campus is located on the 7th and 8th floor of the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions building.  Presently, there are 10 full time faculty members in the program, plus a number of adjunct faculty that contribute to the curriculum.  The field of public health is multi-disciplinary as are the over 25 courses offered on the Dallas campus extending across the biological, quantitative, and social sciences. Additional courses, originating from the other four campuses of the UT School of Public Health, are available via interactive television.

Public Health faculty are experts in many areas and pursue a diverse range of research interests including infectious disease, environmental sciences, substance abuse epidemiology, domestic violence, drinking in college populations, injury and trauma epidemiology, maternal and child health, health disparities, and the epidemiology of chronic diseases. In addition, faculty members design, conduct and analyze data collected during ongoing clinical trials at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
