Cytopathology Fellowship: Educational Goals

For completion of fellowship training, the cytology fellow is expected to have achieved diagnostic skills in exfoliative and FNA cytology, acquire proper techniques for performance of FNA and for proper use of ancillary techniques in the diagnosis. He/she is expected to perform at a high level with abilities to change and disagree with the screening technologist and able to defend his/her diagnosis. Also, the fellow should be able to understand the dynamics of cytologic/histologic correlation to monitor quality in cytology laboratory and to reliably use ancillary techniques (cytochemical stains, immunohistochemical stains, flow cytometry, cytogenetic, and microbiology) to arrive at a diagnosis and thus help patient management.
