This 1-year program accredited by the ACGME is designed to prepare a pathologist, Infectious Diseases physician, or a doctoral level clinical scientist for a career in the subspecialty of clinical microbiology. Experience will be gained by clinical rotations in the microbiology laboratories of Parkland Health and Hospital System, St. Paul/Zale Lipshy University Hospitals, Children’s Medical Center and the Dallas County Health Department. There will also be rotations on infection control, and interactions with the division of Infectious Diseases at UT Southwestern. The program would also prepare the participant for the certification examination in the subspecialty of Medical Microbiology administered by the American Board of Pathology.
Requirements:
Physicians must have the M.D. or D.O. degree, and have successfully completed an accredited pathology residency program, or fellowship in adult or pediatric infectious diseases. Physicians must be eligible for a Texas Institutional Permit. Doctoral level scientists must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., microbiology).
