Clinical Chemistry Fellowship: Rotations

To provide the Fellow with an introduction to the various laboratories with different missions on the campus, 1 week rotations will be scheduled in each of the laboratories listed below. During these rotations, the Fellow will meet several faculty and staff members and be introduced to a variety of tests, methodologies, and research projects conducted in these various laboratories. Such an experience is intended to assist the Fellow in choosing a research interest, laboratory, and faculty member mentor for the duration of the Fellowship program.

Parkland Memorial Hospital (PMH)*

 

*Base laboratory for the Fellow

Experience a large, county hospital laboratory serving an indigent and non-indigent patient population. Chemical Pathology Fellow will have defined daily duties within the PHHS laboratory.
Aston Ambulatory Care Center (AACC) Experience an outpatient clinical laboratory environment
Zale Lipshy University Hospital (ZLUH) Experience a small hospital inpatient laboratory environment
Children’s Medical Center (CMC) Experience a pediatric hospital inpatient and outpatient laboratory environment
St. Paul University Hospital (SPUH) Experience a small, specialized hospital inpatient and outpatient laboratory environment
Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (MDL), UTSWMC Experience state-of-the-art testing using a variety of molecular biology techniques such as PCR, SSCP, Western Blot, etc.
Immunology and Flow Cytometry Laboratory (I/FCML), UTSWMC Experience state-of-the-art testing using a variety of immunological (nephelometry, ELISA, EIA, etc.) and flow cytometry techniques and procedures
Forensic Pathology Laboratory (FPL), UTSWMC Experience testing, methodologies, and instruments used in forensic testing and toxicology
Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Experience a large hospital laboratory dedicated to serving a veteran’s population
