The International Medical Exchange Program (IMEP) is a formal medical and research exchange program between the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW; Dallas, TX USA) and the Université de Paris Descartes (Paris Descartes; Paris, France).
For UTSW students, this program is a 1-year long exchange where at least 6 months are spent clerking in the hospitals of Paris and the remainder of the time is spent in a Least/Lesser Developed Country of choosing. Students who successfully complete this program graduate with an M.D. With Distinction in International Health. Students interested in research will have access to the Institut Fédératif de Recherche Necker-Enfants Malades (IRNEM) where they can pursue electives in clinical and basic research.
For Paris Descartes students, this is a 1-year long exchange where at least 6 months are spent clerking in the core clerkships of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Surgery at UTSW and the remainder of the time spent in research electives or other medical electives. For French students interested in pursuing Masters or PhD work at UTSW, the Graduate School for Biomedical Sciences will accept up to 10 Paris Descartes students annually.
