Interpersonal and Communication Skills

  1. Objectives
    1. Ability to communicate results to clinicians, both informally and in the setting of clinical conferences.
    2. Call frozen section and stat diagnoses to clinicians within 20 minutes of receipt of specimen.
    3. Develop ability to explain pathology findings to others.
  2. Plan
    1. Documentation of communication attempts on draft copies of surgical pathology reports.
    2. Presentation of microscopic pathologic findings at Consultants and Gross Conferences.
  3. Supervision/Assessment
    1. The residents’ interpersonal and communication skills are subjectively assessed by the attending pathologist during the rotation.
