The Obesity Clinic located in the Aston General Surgery Clinic, (6th floor Aston) provides medical weight management.  The clinic provides 3 options:

  1. Medically supervised weight loss - focusing on behavioral change with emphasis on calorie restriction, protein intake and exercise.

  2. Liquid Protein Program - a very low calorie diet (less than 1000 cal/day) using protein supplements (soups and shakes) combined with behavioral lectures, regular laboratory assessments and weekly visits with physicians and dieticians.

  3. Surgery - a multidisciplinary clinic allows for evaluation and treatment by surgery, internal medicine, psychology, hepatology and dietary all at one site.  5 surgeons perform open or laparoscopic roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic gastric band and management of associated postoperative complications.

Patients’ metabolic requirements are assessed through bioimpedance analysis and the information used to determine protein and calorie needs.  Other nutritional needs are also evaluated and treated (eg.iron, vitamins).
