mobile mammography unit

What we offer …

UT Southwestern Medical Center provides the only digital mammography unit in a mobile environment available in Dallas and the southwest U.S.

The latest technological advancement in breast cancer screening...

A national study found digital mammography to be 15% to 28% more effective than conventional film mammograms at finding breast cancer in three study groups that make up the majority of women:

  • Women of any age with very dense breast tissue,
  • Women under 50 no matter how dense their breast tissue, and
  • Women prior to menopause.

Understand this life-saving message from our Medical Director, Dr. Phil Evans, “Regardless of whether its digital or not, a mammogram is still the best tool to find breast cancer early and reduce the chance of dying from it.”

How to access the mobile unit for your personal mammogram…

Simply phone our Call Center at (214) 645-2560 and choose option 1 for appointment scheduling.

How to reserve the Mobile mammography unit for a day-long screening event at your worksite, church, or community event…
  1. Reserve the mobile unit for your event by calling Gloria Espinosa, the Mobile Coordinator at (214) 645-2518.

  2. All events must be scheduled at least 30 days in advance of your planned event date in order to allow adequate time for your participants to pre-register with our Call Center.  A signed Service Agreement reserves your date with the mobile mammography program.  A typical screening event is held from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday; Saturday reservations fill quickly, so reservations must be made at least 3 to 6 months in advance.

  3. UT Southwestern Medical Center will provide posters and flyers for you to distribute.  There is no charge to reserve the mobile unit, we simply ask that you help promote the event and encourage pre-registration.  A minimum of 25 women must be pre-registered, at the very latest, 2 business days in advance of the event date in order for the mobile unit to participate.
What happens on the day of the screening event?

The Mobile unit driver will arrive with the unit before 7am on the event date; entry onto the lot where the unit will be parked must be available. The Mobile unit staff will arrive by 7:30 am to begin screening of participants at 8:00 am.  Each participant will have an individual appointment time for their screening mammogram to be done.

How do I receive the results of my mammogram?

Participants will receive results in 5 to 7 days after the mammogram in a letter written in lay-terms sent to their home address.  All participants must present current identification such as driver’s license and their health insurance card at the time of service.

Who do I contact if I need more information?
