Each year hundreds of couples are evaluated in the obstetrics and gynecology Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility clinics at UT Southwestern.  Our clinics offer comprehensive care for women who are trying to conceive and for those with hormonal disorders.

 

 

 

 
Karla Saner, Ph.D.

Our team of medical specialists is dedicated to helping women with complex gynecologic and endocrine problems.  We realize that solving medical problems can be at times difficult and dizzying.  Our goal is to provide personalized care for women and to approach each patient with knowledge, understanding, and respect.


We are committed to using the most advanced testing and procedures to increase the likelihood of identifying patient problems and customizing an individualized treatment plan.

Dr. Lisa Halvorson is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at UT Southwestern.  She is also Medical Director of the division's University Practice.  She earned her medical degree at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. 


Following her residency, Dr. Halvorson continued her training in both basic science research and clinical endocrinology.  She has been a Research Fellow in Endocrinology in the Departments of Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, both affiliates of Harvard Medical School.  She pursued her Clinical Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at Tufts University School of Medicine.

Dr. Halvorson is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.  She is a member of several medical organizations including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Endocrine Society, the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, and the Society for the Study of Reproduction.

In addition to her administrative role within the department, Dr. Halvorson conducts basic science research and provides clinical patient care.  She has many published journal articles describing the molecular regulation of hormones which are critical for normal reproductive function. 

In her clinical practice, Dr. Halvorson offers the full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services for patients with reproductive endocrinologic and infertility disorders.




Bruce Carr, M.D.

Dr. Bruce Carr is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology Fellowship Program at UT Southwestern.  He also holds the Paul C. MacDonald Distinguished Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Carr earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and received both his residency and fellowship training at UT Southwestern.  He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. 

Dr. Carr is internationally recognized as an authority in reproductive endocrinology with hundreds of publications and lectures to his credit.  He is a member of the New York Academy of Science and editor-in-chief for the journal Seminars in Reproductive Medicine.  In addition, Dr. Carr serves as an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology where he participates in the oral examination of physicians seeking board certification in the speciality of reproductive endocrinology.

Dr. Carr is also a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Society for Gynecologic Investigation, Society for Reproducitve Endocrinology and Infertility, American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.


Dr. Carr's practice focuses on diagnostic and treatment options for patients with infertility or endocrine problems, including those associated with menopause.  His patients benefit from years of laboratory and clinical research.  Among the topics he has investigated are the regulation of the expression of steroidogenic enzymes, the regulation of ovarian and adrenal androgen production, hormone therapy and menopause, endometriosis, leiomyomas, and infertility.


Dr. Ellen Wilson is Associate Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center.  She is a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who earned her medical degree in 1984 at Baylor College of Medicine.  She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1989 at George Washington University Hospital and her fellowship training in 1991 at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Additionally, Dr. Wilson completed a year-long fellowship in advanced laparoscopy in 1992 through the Society of Reproductive Surgeons at Woman's Hospital in Houston, Texas. She then entered private practice in North Dallas for 8 years prior to returning as a faculty member to UT Southwestern in 2001.

Dr. Wilson speaks both English and French.  Her primary interests lie in: polycystic ovarian syndrome, infertility, menopause hormonal management, and pediatric/adolescent gynecology with a focus on anatomic abnormalities. 


Ellen Wilson, M.D.



Gary Ackerman, M.D.

Dr. Gary Ackerman is a Professor in the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division and Medical Director of the division's Cryopreservation Program for Human Spermatozoa.  His practice focuses on helping couples with infertility problems.

In addition to his University Practice, Dr. Ackerman is Director of the Faculty Sexual Assault Exam and Testimony Program. 

 

Dr. Ackerman earned his medical degree from the State University of New York.  He completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Maimonides Medical Center and completed fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
