MSTP - The Graduate Years

Following summer laboratory rotations, the MSTP student will select a dissertation mentor from any of the UT-Southwestern research faculty. As we believe that true research training comes only from full immersion in the research project, the student will function as a graduate student after choosing her/his laboratory. Nevertheless, the student remains integrated in the MST program by attending weekly Works-in-Progress seminars, research/clinical conferences and other activities that maintain the camaraderie formed among those pursuing the combined degree. The MSTP graduate student will be trained in the intellectual and experimental strategies that are the hallmark of successful scientific practice. Dissertation research will culminate in results that significantly advance the state of biomedical knowledge and the student will have the foundation of skills necessary for developing an outstanding post-graduate career as an physician-scientist.
