  • Neurology offers 6 adult residency positions each year and 2 to 3 pediatric neurology positions.
  • We provide a 4-year integrated medicine internship & residency program in adult neurology or a 3-year residency in adult neurology (beginning after preliminary medicine internship). 
  • Pediatric neurology is a 3-year program (beginning after pediatrics)
  • The adult neurology training schedule is designed to provide the highest quality clinical training in general neurology and the major neurological subspecialties. 
  • UT Southwestern is a premiere medical institution with a highly ranked medical school (with 4 active nobel laureate faculty), a vigorous graduate school, an allied health school and 4 hospitals together on an integrated clinical/research campus (Campus map).

  • Residents have a rich experience at diverse clinical facilities
  • Training in inpatient and outpatient settings supervised by an active, energetic faculty with a wide variety of clinical and research interests.  Many faculty are international experts in their specialties.
  • Training is further supplemented by interactions with world-renown neurosurgeons, neuropathologists, active diagnostic and neurointerventional radiologists, outstanding basic neuroscientists and local private neurologists with teaching interests.

  • Numerous weekly teaching conferences supplement a structured Neurology residency didactic curriculum to provide a strong foundation in the basic and clinical science of Neurology. 
  • Regular board review preparation including practical examinations, case conferences, CPC and small group board review/neuroanatomy topic reviews. Our residents typically pass the ABPN exams on their first sitting.
  • Residents can thrive by individualizing their experience with numerous opportunities for research or for additional clinical experiences in neurophysiology (EMG/EEG), neuroradiology, interventional neurology, neuro intensive care, neuropathology and other subspecialties.
  • Numerous Fellowship Programs in neurology are available following residency training.
  • Numerous world-recognized subspeciaty programs including the Southwestern multiple sclerosis clinical center, Alzheimer center and MDA clinics.
  • Advanced post-residency research training can be supported by the Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP) at UT Southwestern.
  • The department of Neurology is home to the Archives of Neurology.
  • Southwestern is the only neurology training program in north Texas.  We serve as the tertiary referral center for a large and diverse population.
