The Neurology residency and fellowship programs at UT Southwestern are committed to continuous improvement. The goal is to provide the best clinical and academic training in Neurology, to continue to be the preeminent Neurology training program in Texas and the Southwest.
Here are some recent and upcoming items that demonstrate our commitment to the quality of our program:
2010 - The residency program begins an innovative web-based curriculum initiative, leading the way for the use of new technology in residency education.
2010 - The neuro critical care division grows to four faculty with Drs. Garg and Dastur. Residents and fellows train in two unique neuro ICU settings. The University Hospital NCC service focuses on patients with complex neurovascular and neurosurgical disorders. The Parkland NCC team serves patients with neurotrauma and acute neurovascular issues
2010 - Dr. Mark Goldberg joins the department as the new chairman of Neurology and brings a strong committment to excellence. Dr. Stephen Cannon becomes the associate dean for medical student education at UT Southwestern.
2010 - The neurology unit at Parkland (8W) is honored by PRC (an independent hospital consultant) as a Top Performer (highest score among inpatient nursing units for quality and patient satisfaction in the nation)
2010 - We're all EMR!! All neurology inpatient services and outpatient clinics now have full electronic medical records. Parkland, CMC and University hospitals and clinics all use the same EMR system.
2010 - New fellowships programs available at UT Southwestern in movement disorders and neuro-oncology.
2010 - The neurology teaching program was awarded a prestigious Whitaker lectureship from the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Dan Lowenstein is the Whitaker lecturer for UT Southwestern.
Sept. 2009 - Ambulatory Neurology at Parkland Hospital (the residents' clinic) is recognized for excellence.
