For our October 26th meeting, David Maass, Ph. D., Senior Research Scientist, Surgery, gave a lecture on traumatic burn research. He talked about Parkland Hospital (2nd largest civilian burn center in the country) and the Parkland Formula (4ml LR/%Burn/kg of body weight) for treating traumatic burns. He talked about his cytokine research and how clinical and bench mesh to save lives. Afterwards, Kerstin Ure, research assistant, Molecular biology, talked about how she chose a career in research and a day in the life of a graduate research student. Students really enjoyed the presentations and stayed behind to ask a lot of questions.
